Ultraviolet light is a relatively new method of disinfecting private water systems. UV radiation causes damage to the genetic structure of bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens, making them incapable of reproduction. Ultraviolet radiation adds nothing to the water and does not produce any taste or odors like those caused by the use of chlorine or other chemicals.
